RE: Good ADSL News at last...

Title: RE: [ukha_d] Good ADSL News at last...
The "Exchange" is the collection of racks that feed you your telephone service.

Normally there is one exchange per building. (there can be more than one exchange in a building in large cities)

One exchange can serve many villages, often located centrally in a group of 3 or 4 villages.

A normal town will have one exchange

Large towns and cities can have several exchanges

There are often 20 or more exhanges to a single STD code.

Stupid question: but what's the definition of an "exchange" - is it the std code or is there a finer granularity if so how do you find out what the extent of your exchange is?

well...

"The demand and the target levels will be clearly visible to all and will
help individuals, communities, local authorities and service providers to
have a direct impact on broadband roll out."

it sounds to me like they will have an almost Blue Peter Appeal feel to it!

You are here>
Your Exchange needs>

I *Fully* intend to start leafleting my estate, and local business the
*second* I know how many people we need!

and my local lec have said that they will help by contacting all the
businesses in a given area!

It's *finally* looking more hopeful..

Ian.

Ian, that's a very ambitious statement given that it is BT we're talking
about here! ;)

However I notice the lack of any further info or how many people have
shown an interest etc :/
