Stuart,

DTMF is a consideration but I really wanted to keep things as simple as
possible, not for me you understand but for the other occupants of the house
(All Female) so wanted 1 unit to receive audio and announcements and keep the
number of wires to a minimum.  I guess (with our older ears) there would be no
reason why I could not send something over say 16-20 KHz with a notch filter in
the receiver and then do the switching based on the receipt of such a signal.

Hmm,

Back to the drawing board.

Like it, a no-wires solution

Ok, but how about this,
Do you really need stereo ?
If not then how about using a say the left channel to carry a DTFM code,
then put a DTFM decoder in each reciever to turn the amp on / off ? My
guess is that a DTFM reciever is less the

You could probably do something with clever use of DTFM codes ?
