Gareth,
I managed to get a Tivo from Powerhouse (got it Thursday) and I too
have
Sky+.
Sky+ is very easy to use, and IMO better than having a STB and a
Tivo.
Don't forget that Sky introduced Tivo into the UK - only thing is
Murdoch
decided to make his own version - and made Sky+, basically a digibox c/w a
Tivo
with its own tuner.
I got the Tivo for two reasons -
1) To dump recording onto it from Sky+ and video
2) I love a bargain, and a Tivo at under £100 is definitely a
bargain!
Good thing about Sky is that the TV listings come from the satellite,
and
are almost instant - whereas Tivo needs to dial out. I like the fact
that
Tivo is an encoder/decoder and records external sources, Sky+ will only
record
>from
hat
'worries' me is that Tivo is constantly recording, meaning constant use of
the
hard disk. So can we expect approx 3 years max life from it???
Sky+ software could do with some tweaking, so hopefully when a new
version
is made available it will be, graphically, as good as the Tivo.
Sky+ and Tivo are two very similar bits of equipment, and are both
excellent. It's just a pity Sky's bandwidth allocations to most
channels
is totally shite! and both recorders capabilities are better than the
signal they receive :o(

Subject: [ukha_d] Am I the only one
who
isn't impressed by TiVo ?
To be honest, after playing with it for 24hrs, Im not impressed. I've
already got Sky+ and it's sooo easy to use - nice and simple. By contrast,
the
TiVo is slow, cumbersome, and not very intuitive. And Im already having
problem with channel selections. grrr !
Even if it was free, I'm
still
not sure I would like it !
