Learning Perl might be a bit overkill just to record some temperatures to a
text file :-)

You can have a look at it at http://www.perl.com or www.perl.org

Have you had a look at the Dallas site to see if there's anything you could
easily modify on there? I'm sure there's a demo program they provide that
writes the temp to the screen, you could then pipe that into a text file ...

Have a scout around ftp.dalsemi.com for their developers kit.
