There is no need to make it a balanced signal...

Sending Line Level signals down an unsheilded cable is your problem.
I would suggest you buy some sheilded audio cable, a good microphone
cable will be fine, and run the sound through that.

Maplins sell a range of shielded audio cables, there are a few that
are in stereo pairs of cables, so they are nicely connected together..


This will then be fine for the appilcation you are considering,
anything upto 100m will work fine.
