What happened to the
Centralite System you had chosen?
It has too many limitations, and I can
only get it on a supply only basis. I want someone to design a solution and
install it for me. I’m happy to work on the logic of programming it
after
the fact, but is it too much to ask to get someone to supply a
solution?

lighting
for around 20 loads – with hardwired control
What about CBus? Or some
of
the really upmarket stuff like Creston etc/ LiteTouch is supposed to be
coming
to the UK next year.
It needs to be available now. Is there
a
list of CBus installers somewhere. I like the idea of CBus, but have only
found
one installer so far, and they aren’t particularly
local.
> Hard wired
networking
But you'll still need
cable for you curtain control, light switches etc. Seems mad not to
put a
few others in for data.
If it is Cbus (which seems the best
system
I’ve seen so far), then it will only be a single bus of cat5) given
that
it is only two rooms and I’ve been happily using a wireless network
for
18 months, what is the point?

of
Comfort (that is handled by an ISDN PBX)
Can your PBX call
your
mobile when someone rings your door bell and let you speak to them?
Can
you dial into your PBX and control your lighting, heating, curtains
etc?
Yes the doorbell can be diverted. I
haven’t
seen the need to operate my curtains by phone once in my 35 years, but
I’ll
be able to link to the analogue part of my ADSL line.
> IR distribution
– I’m almost certainly going to get a Marantz
RC5200
I'm using one of those IR-RF-IR systems at the moment and it's uter crap
(still
waiting for Keith or Ian to release hard wired IR Systems :) ).
Why
not cable your IR when you have the chance?
Because Keith’s or Ian’s
system isn’t available NOW. I’m sure the “pants”
system
will cope over the 10 or so metres I need it for.
Mark, my requirements are pretty much
unique. I’m trying to automate a small living area, that most people
wouldn’t bother with due to my disability. My comparably humble
dwelling
is attached to a house which is valued in the seven figure bracket, and the
insurance company want me to install an alarm system that has full digital
monitoring.
Due to my specific requirements, I
can’t
just up-sticks and stay with a mate if this stuff is to be installed at a
later
date, and being up and dressed at 8 am to receive workmen usually means
getting
up at between 5:30 and 6. For this reason, I want to have the whole
shooting
match installed before I move in. Something that might be available
sometime
next year is not right for me.
Tim.
