Re: Wiring light switches...
The reason for the neutral connection is due to the fact that a small
amount of current flow through the controller is required to receive
the X10 signalling. This is of course only required for those
controllers at the switch point. Some however do not and the current
flow is provided through the actual Lamp, hence the reason why you
cannot use low energy or fluorescent lights.
IMHO - If you are unsure about what you are doing, leave well alone,
not only could you end up electrocuting yourself, you could of course
end up crating a fire hazard, and burning your house down, and in the
subsequent investigation shows it was your fault, NO insurance ouch !
Having said all that, if you feel confident enough then firstly get a
good electrical book or one of the large DIY books, the Collins DIY
book about 19.99 is great as it has nice colour pictures but also
covers everything not just electrics. Also most of the better X10
supplier (on-line) have great download areas with ways of hooking up
the kit.
What ever you decide have fun, after all that's why we do it, and
play it safe !!!!!
I have just done the lights in my dining room, 3 circuits all from
LD10's and of course no switches on the wall.
