Good point Patrick.

I did get a 'bare board' PIR from Maplins - and it did trigger
quickly. Unfortunately it was fairly ugly but modifying an existing
PIR is an interesting idea. I guess you need the right PIR design to
be able to do this successfully (i.e. the new sensor needs
unobstructed view and can't get in the way of the old one +
shouldn't use a mirror design).

There still is the problem of the 'X10 lag' though. And nothing is
going to cure that.
