RE: Water Reclamation System

Stuart,

a: Hmm.... I'd look VERY carefully at the structural integrity of the garage roof. Water is, well, heavy, and you may need to reinforce.

b: Charcoal. (SWMBO comes from a long line of market gardeners.)

c: If you're going to use it for watering the garden, then no, that's fine. Note however, that "hosepipe bans" are dictated by the Environment Agency, not your local water supplier and DO apply even to water you have collected off your own roof and store in your own storage tanks.

My personal recommendation would be to use a series of daisy-chained water butts. OR to dig out an underground tank (if you're serious) and install a motorised pump.

Regards,

Mark

Hi All,

I've decided that I want to reduce the "fresh" water usage here at gadget
towers.

Plan is as follows

1) Collect rain water from main roof of house, easy enough to do as
downspout runs past wall of garage.

2) Install automated storage system in garage roof.
3) Collect water from garage roof, more difficult as storage tanks will
obviously be above gutter level, plan to use a rainbut with automated
emptying system into garage storage tank.

Any comments on above welcome

Now the questions

a) How to store the water, ie tanks ? Have to consider that it's a new
house so has horible A frame roof members in the garage, which have a
spacing of 22"

b) Is there any addative for the water to reduce the chance of it smelling
? (I'm already working on an automated dosing pump )

c) Any implications with the water board / /local council.

Cheers

STuart
