To answer the original question...
Don't use an input marked "Phono", "MC", or
"MM" on your amp... but you can use anything marked
"tape", "CD", "DVD", "MD" or pretty
much anything else, with the headphone out....

If i can remember, the difference is the compatability of the signal
levels, but your'll know the differnce when you connect it up. Some
inputs will have lots of hum, some might be very low volume. Of
course this may also be down to the type of amp you are using.
Once you find a suitable input the quality was OK but again this also
depends on your laptop. Lots of variables so suck it and see!!
I didn't want to chance the PHONO input as i still have and use my
Linn turntable.
