RE: Re: OT Loud panels

Nik,

Agreed - £80 and £800 sound very different...

... but in the context of Graham's Home Cinema budget, either is a "rounding error" :-)

Of course,
But the prices are not in the same league either: £800 compared to £80.
I would say that they are excellent for that price range and form factor, but I am not sure about home cinema.
They produce the sound different way so the sound is not that directional and it's not easy to point to the source. That should have some effect on surround sound effects for sure.
I always wanted to use them as a part of home cinema, either as a front or back speakers, but I never managed to find a review and opinion how they behave for that purpose.
They are always reviewed as stereo speakers for stereo Hi-Fi system, never as a part of home cinema setup.

Not even in the same solar system, never mind the same league Graham…..

Seeing as you are in spendy mode, have a look at the KEF Ci range. They need around 100mm deep holes cut into the wall, but they aren’t cheap. The top of the range Reference 2000s come in at 800 quid each, but there are lesser members in the range. I’ve just ordered a couple as they are tonally matched to my front speakers.

Would these be good for surround speakers in a 5.1 setup? I currently
have B&W 601s at the back on the 'group standard' atacama 1 metre
stands. Even I have to admit that this is not the most aesthetically
pleasing set up and I could win major brownie points by replacing
these with 'pictures'.
