As long as you're using it for data backup, a DVD-R drive will be a
good
move.
Dabs.com are doing the Pioneer A104 (which is the OEM version of the
A04)
for ?275 last time I looked.
Bear in mind that the cheaper unbranded disks (the 70p ones!) are first
gen
disks that (usually) only write at single speed, about 55mins per disk.
If you want to write movie DVDs, I should check your DVD player first,
contrary to popular belief/hype most players DON'T play DVD-R disks...
tho
they all play on a PC based DVD player.

Hi,
Just wanted a quick bit of advice since I gather some people here use them
a
fair bit...
I urgently need to implement a backup system capable of looking after
my
rapidly growing 20GBs of digital photos.
Current favourites are a DVD writer or an Onstream 60GB tape thingy.
However, I've just confused myself over the compatibilities of the
various
DVD writers. Just how compatible is a DVD-R writer, and is it a dead
duck
now that DVD+R is getting more popular?
Thanks,
Ray Barnett.
