Re: Remote reboot?

Andy,

I do just this with my main HA server, by running _another_ "standby" HA
server, with a CM12, Homeseer, etc... these two machines do X10 "pings"
every 10 minutes, and the standby one can restart the main one by power
cycling it, as it is plgged into an AM12.

I fully intend to improve upon this a bit though, by using either my Ocelot
and a SECU16 module (Which I have yet to acquire), or a VIOM module, and
connecting an output from either of those devices across the "reset" pins on
the motherboard. The VIOM could be a cheap and easy way of doing this, as it
has onboard timers and could be set up to countdown, and to reset the PC if
the countdown gets to zero, then an event running in the HA software
(Homeseer) resets the timer before it does, so if ever Homeseer stops
working the PC gets rebooted. The VIOM could also signal another PC on tha
LAN when this happens, just in case the main HA PC doesn;t come back to
life...

Alternatively, I may purchase a SECU16 add-on for my Ocelot, and do exactly
the same thing with that, - I already run the Ocelot plug-in for Homeseer,
so I can have Homeseer send a signal to the Ocelot to reset a timer
there....

The thing I do want to make sure I can though, is to recover at least an
essential subset of the HA system if the main PC dies so horribly that it
wont come back to life even after a hard reset... My plan to accomplish this
is to muve as much as possible into the Ocelot, - but a lot of stuff just
can't be done there (integration with Outlook Calendar for example), so I
have to maintain a functional Homeseer server. Hence the reason for having
my standby Homeseer server with all the same events configured (but
disabled), which steps into the breech if/when the above happens...
