Re: network woes

Tried to find a lead at work, no luck, so I've butchered the cable I had (cut two of the wires), still have the same problem with just the centre pins connected to 2 and 5.

You probably need leads with the centre 2 pins at the RIO end connected to pins 2 & 5 at the BT End.... AND NOTHING ELSE !!!

You can get laptop leads like that.

The leads I just had lying around. Looking at the leads that came with the rio (think these were the ones) I think they only have 2 wires, whereas the ones I'm using have 4 connected.

Rio to PC would be OK even if there was a loop on there as you dont have a phone line involved, just a pair of wires.

Just a thought....I assume this Kit is designed for the US so where did you get the leads from ?

It could be as simple as just being the wrong pinout for UK sockets.

Keith,

OK, disconnected everything, with just the wire to the Rio, all is ok as soon as I plug it into the Rio no dialling tone and if I try to ring using my mobile, engaged. So do I assume that the Rio is the problem, yet Rio straight to PC everything works ok.

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith,

I'm not talking about an earth loop but the fact that one of the wires may be earthed somehow. That would short the phoneline to earth and effectively take the phone off the hook.

Start with the RIO.

Disconnect everything from it and plug it into the line -

OK - next
Faulty - its duff :-(

Reconnect leads one by one until things stop working.

Start with the power lead but the power turned off
Turn power on
Connect audio output

etc.....

Report back on the results
