Hi Stuart,

It was an assumption on my part, I work for one of the semi's
companies I mentioned in my post and the only time we talk to people
about IrDA for remote style applications they tend to want
bidirectional connections and use a Transceiver with a number of 5mm
IR LEDS to get a decent distance.

For Unidirectional applications IrDA is usually too expensive and
limited due to it's origins as a short distance point to point link.
