Automating a thermostat

Any of you guys removed an existing mechanical thermostat and replaced it
with one that is capable of x10 control?

Ideally I want a thermostat with a read out of current temperature and the
ability to change it locally and remotely via pc/pronto (x10). The
thermostat is in the living room so the replacement must not look too out
of
place.

Someone must have done this before - how easy is it to remove an old
thermostat? What new parts do I need? Anyone got a decent tutorial
webpage?

Cheers,
-Dan
