Yup, that's absolutely what it means.

It can work with standard POP3 mailboxes, or MAPI mail systems - handy if
you have your own Exchange server at home ;-)

It can be configured to check the mailbox at a frequency of your choosing,
and can be configured to act upon receipt of emails from certain addressese
independently - i.e. emails from you can cause a different action than
emails from anyone else...

Home automation commands can be given in the subject line of the message,
and Homeseer will then execute them according to your hearts desire...

Homeseer can also send emails as well...
