Re: [OT] WTF is happening to ukha_d?

As the original poster of the Kodak camera offer to this group I must apologise, it was not HA related, but I know a lot of people here like their gadgets and a bargain gadget is almost irresistible. But sometimes these offers are too good to be true. I am not disappointed that I did not get a camera. Heck, I did not even need it, but I cannot resist a bargain. All this talk of involving trading standards, small claims etc. is a bit over the top for an offer that did seem a bit dodgy. There are lots of discussions about this elsewhere on the net and I agree with Julian that this is off topic for this group.
Having said that I do enjoy this group for its non HA content and "comical wit".

Thanks

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] WTF is happening to ukha_d?

When I first joined this groudid seemp I wthatas greeted with open arms and received
some great help from various apresentre to good to be trueindividuals with regards to my new house build
and the ideas I had. That was about five months ago...

Over the past two days there has been 175 posts to this group regarding
Kodak cameras, wasting (yes wasting) ~1797034bytes (1.71megs) of bandwidth
per user. With 429 registered users, that more data than you can fit on a CD
being basically wasted by the rants and complaints of a pile of people who
honestly have nothing better to do than complain and/or create idle chit
chat.

I suspect that 350+ users in this group don't really care whether you got in
on the Kodak web-sham or whether your complaints get replied to by the other
people who ordered cameras. I would suggest however, that you take this
conversation to another board, which actually has some relevance to digital
cameras/Kodak/legal wrangling as I honestly don't think this is the place...
I can bet the first thing some people will think is "this is a one off, this
volume of Spam only happens once in a while", but it does happen and it will
happen more as this group turns from an email forum into email based IRC...

On another note, Stuart Poulton's comments about the amount of white noise
on this group was extremely accurate. His comment "I'm not complaining, but
I'm sure that the noise on the e-mail now exceeds the content contained
within." is most defiantly true. As a few of you did with Stuarts email, I
suspect you will either take the pish out of this email or get extremely
arsey about it.

Mark's comment "We had a big discussion on this not that long ago and the
consensus was pretty much the majority didn't want any change in the "chat"
on the list." is basically a crock. People who tend to voice their opinion
on this matter are the regulars, who just drown out any valid comments with
childish banter and sheer volume of emails.

I cannot believe that 350+ people are receiving this group, and reading it
with delight at the comical wit and non-HA related banter that goes on here.
I for one only read articles that don't have RE: in them until I find a
thread that is even worth looking. I prefer to put my brain in gear and
actively seek out the answers to my own networking problems, bargains, news,
reviews, software set up issues etc. There are a million other boards/news
groups/yahoo groups/irc channels that can help out with these problems,
faster and more accurately, why do we have to bring it to a ukha_d ? Some of
us get networking/os/install and internet stuffed in our faces all day, why
should we have to suffer this when we sit down in the evening to read the
days HA related info?

I wish that anything unrelated to HA could automatically be flagged as OT
before it was sent out to the rest of the members, or moderated in some way
but you (the majority of the vocal few) have all made your opinions clear,
that you want to stick with the Neanderthal that is yahoo groups...

I can see a whole bunch of "why don't you just vote with your feet and
unsubscribe then" messages coming my way in the morning, but I will continue
to read this group and assist with HA stuff in any way I can.

If you agree with me and wish to send support of what I have covered here,
please don't fill this group with replies, send me an email to
jules@xxxxxxx
If you feel like flaming me, please don't fill this newsgroup with replies,
send me an educated, and thought out email to jules@xxxxxxx
I just feel sorry for the people who only get to download this group every
weekend on a 56k modem...

Regards,

Jules
