Wouldn't you rather have something that closed when you sent it an X10 "on" and opened on an "off" and didn't need all this pratting about with appliance modules and 240v relays?

Answered my own Question... the LDR drops from a good 800 ohms down to about 100 ohms in daylight, and about 60 ohms with a fook off spotlight glaring on it, so it's a pretty safe bet I would say that the circuitry is designed to maintain a steady state of 60-100 ohms..
 
Just tested the gubbins with a 90ohm resistor, and the switching works just perfect.
