I must confess I havent really been paying attention to this thread much
but
I suspect like many others i set up a wizard style format for my pronto for
swmbo.  works well because she gets asked to decided whether she wants to
watch something or listen to something and then to choose the source.  It
pretty much always jumps to the right panel for the unit but the volume
buttons for each unit are links to the volume controls for the amp so one
panel does all.  She seems to find this pretty easy to work with.

Simple side....complex side ;-)

Or you could just make simple panels in the Pronto with jump buttons to
the panels that SWMBO uses.
