True when you're talking 144/168 pin DIMMs but these are 72 pin ones
which in the old Pentium Mobo's using 72pin SIMMs had to be installed in
pairs.

Are these using 72pin DIMMs though?

Agreed but I do expect it to be pairs needed...

....perhaps Gareth could just pull one DIMM out of a penpad that he has
now and see whether it recognises just the memory in the one remaining
slot?
