You can get 8 port Digiboards (or similar) for a song at computer
auctions and some surplus places. The older kit is ISA, but perfectly
adequate for most needs.

Depending on what you need to connect, and how many PC's you have,
network-connector technology may also help. (e.g. my Comfort, caller-
id box, 1-wire weather station and SMS modem are all hanging off
other random machines and connected to Homeseer via remote network
connections).
