Re: Rear Projection TV's

I've got a Tosh RP set, - a 43" 4:3 jobbie.

I bought it on impulse (as you do!), cos when I saw it in the shop, I was
quite impressed with the picture (for a R.P. set)....

What impressed me was the wide viewing angle, - I've seen many RP sets in
the past where the picture went "off" very badly and very quickly as soon as
you move more than a few degrees off the perpendicular. These newer Tosh's
aren't half bad in that respect. I usually sit at about 45 degrees off
perpendicular in the horizontal plane, and probably about 20-30 degrees off
in the vertical plane, (because of the size of the thing, and the fact that
I have it on top of a Hi-Fi stand, the screen is quite high..), and I have
no problems watching it, the bightness and contrast are perfectly
acceptable. (Which is not to say that it doesn't get a bit brighter when I
stand up, 'cos it does...)

Anyway, had it for a couple of years now, and been very happy. I intend it
to last me about another 2 years, and then I plan to replace it with a 50"
(or bigger) plasma.

One thing though, - Toshiba are notoriously bad at *not* having discrete IR
codes for their kit, - there just plain isn't a discrete IR code for On/Off
(it's a toggle), or AV input selection (it's a cycle). So if it is important
for you to have discrete control of your set for HA purposes, then avoid
Tosh like the proverbial....
