This weekend saw another major step in my HA set-up!  Saturday morning
saw
the arrival of a jiffy bag containing a custom made circuit board from
Ian
Bird that allows me to connect my PC serial port to the IR signal bus of
the
Nigel Orr designed IR extender, that is already running through the
flat.
After a trip to Maplins, who (amazing as it may seem) had all the parts
in
stock to construct an IR Receiver circuit (

) to teach the PC my remote
commands.

After a few teething problems, I now have Dan's IRM Autom8it output
plugin
set-up to issue commands direct onto the signal bus, at scheduled times,
and
in response to x10 events, to name just a few.

So a BIG thank you to Ian for coming up with the circuit to do this.
