Still havent got the floor boards back but at least I've run the
cable now ;)

Sending a single stereo channel to one room doesn't work too well
if the stereo source is actually sending different instruments/voices
down each channel... you'd only hear half the music

I'm sure there are gadgets to convert stereo to mono, but why bother? 
Just send the left signal to one room and the right to another.
