music server

Hello,

Last time I was subscribed to this list (I left because I was too busy
reading about your HA activities to find any time to do my own!)
someone said they used a computer to which they saved iso images of
their audio cds and used the computer as a "music server", a
computerised-jukebox. What software do you use for this on what
operating system? Is the software free or reasonable (= low) cost?
