Power over CAT5 is perfectly possible as long as the current demands arent
too high.
An alternative for places where you know you would put these kind of
displays would be to add a 3/0.75 mains flex. The 3 cores allow for
+12/+5/0
or +12/0/-12 supplies for anything you put there at currents up to 5 amps

I advocate the use of CAT 5 becasue so many of us have these networks in
place. But how will we get power to drive these units to the right spot?
Is it fanciful to think we can power these displays over cat 5 as well as
control them?
