I wouldn't trust X10 to be reliable enough here. This is IMHO where
a
hardwired is required. You did install CAT5 in the bathroom, didn't
you? ;)

Assuming that none of your bath taps are reliant on mains pressure then
the
above hold fairly true.
I must admit, I like the idea about using an ultrasonic tape measure
thingy - it must be possible to get at the signal levels before it
displays
then on an LCD and pump them out as serial data to a controller
(HV?). Set
discretely into the ceiling and Robert's your auntie's live in lover.
Of course, you will need to have the necessary test equipment (an
oscilloscope sounds pretty handy) to delve into the tape measure's
innards.
