Whole House Audio with Rios?

Just wondering if I can get peoples input on this idea.
It came about from Amar's question about switching speakers off with relays.

I currently have 2 of 5 Rio's installed, for zoned audio in different rooms
(using Jrec as the server) but one problem is that as the Rio's cannot be
synch'd you cannot get whole house audio.

What if I stacked all the Rio's in node 0 and run the speaker cables back to
them from each room.
It would seem to me that it might then be possible to use relays to switch
which rio came out of the speakers.

e.g.
One Rio is designated for "whole house" audio and the rest to 4 specific
rooms.
Speakers from all over the house go back to the "whole house" rio (or an
attached amp)
But if a specific Rio is activated (by the ha pc) it will first disconnect
that room's speakers from the "whole house" rio and reconnect them to the
rio (or whatever source) designated for that room using relays?

Could this work?

Many thanks
Tony T
