upstairs is not a problem with different joists, the trouble is
downstairs.... concrete floors...... solid walls....... channelled
walls.....loads of mess.........

Still SWMBO doesn't mind the mess at the mo

For short distances (a few metres) that should be fine. The physical barrier
between the mains & LV is important (or sufficient air gap) i.e. it would be
wrong (against regs) to run mains & LV in the same conduit.

The "formal" advice is to keep mains & LV at least 12" apart. This is often
impractical especially in retrofits so just do the best you can :-)
I tried to keep mains on one floor joist LV on another so they were about
16" apart. They do get much closer than that in a number of places though.
