So what happens if someone to whom the name is transferred (And I'm not
suggesting anyone would, but what if) decides to sell it to the co in
question or just decides to keep it?  Yer buggered then mate.

Better to keep it and resolve the matter yourself IMO.

Of course a co. is going to try the lowest cost option first and hope
you
bite - this does not mean they are nasty & trying strong arm tactics,
just
that they are sensibly starting low and working up.  You _might_ have
rolled
over for them and given them the name so no harm in trying.  
This is standard company practice IME to try something and suggest
legal
recourse if no quick solution in the hope that it puts the frighteners
on
the recipient of the letter.  Ususally works well small co to small
co
rather than large co to large co :;/

I dunno what the domain name is, have no affiliation with anyone
connected
with this etc etc, but just wanted to point out that someone might stop
playing ball in this changing ownership game, and that co's aren't
immediately evil/targeting you for trying the cheap/legal
approach......
