So you're telling me that in a hotel where they have a light switch on the
wall above the bed, you don't use it?

OK, how about this.  Light switches are all manual.  When you switch the
bedroom light off, the alarm activates.  The bedroom light does not turn
on automagically until Xam.  The alarm is deactivated when the PIR on the
landing is activated.  Dunno about you, but the landing has no point of
access in my place, so that'd work.  It'd also be completely transparent.
You walk in the bedroom, and the light goes on.  You flick the switch, and
the light goes off as well as setting the house to 'bedtime'.

Most definitely, but I do see advantages of automated curtains.  Mainly in
the ability to fake someone at home whilst you are away.
