Well, went to local PC World yesterday looking for a PSU, ended up with a
case as they didn't have any but £29.99 wasn't too bad.

Any...built suspect board/cpu into it and exactly the same :( Stays up for
a few mins then hangs :(

Then I decided to take the CPU out and put into my good Athlon setup -
exactly yhe sae thing happend in that setup do I thought, great. now I know
it's the CPU. Just to confirm I put my good CPU in the suspect board and
guess wot...SAME THING AGAIN! FFS!

Lastly I put my good CPU back in m good board and it booted for about 3
secs
then shut it'self down. Noooo!!! I really thought I'd fried the good CPU
but after about 3 boots it came up fine and has been fine eversince, I
assume it was the jumperless board working out the voltages or something?

ANyway, I'm no further on, I don't know if the suspect board or CPU is at
fault, and it seems a shame to dumo them both. Anyone any ideas????

To top it all - near the end of the experiment we had the power click on
and
off a few times and then come back on...at 135 VOLTS!!! My Mrs thought it
was me (obviously) but a ring round soon discovered everyone on our road
was
the same. After switching off all my gear I phoned NIE. SEVEN HOURS LATER
our power was restored. FFS.

M.
