RE: Lighting Effects.

Last year at PLASA every company was displaying some form of RGB light
mixing.

Its funny..... what goes around.... comes around.

In the late 60's and early 70's the mainstay of disco lighting was a 3
channel sound to light unit feeding Red, Green and Blue PAR38 spotlamps.
Then in the 80's everyone moved onto Pinspots and Neon followed by
Intelligent lighting where a high power lamp had discs containing different
coloured filters that were moved in front of the lamp under computer
control.

Now... NJD have made the Mirage which you pointed to (http://www.njd.co.uk)
which has 3 dichroic spotlamps each of which are independantly dimmed to
achieve the correct colour mix.

Even nicer are the LED RGB mixing units developed by Pulsar
http://www.pulsarlight.com
There are loads of different styles but the coolest (and most expensive)
are
the ChromaBanks as seen extensively on Top Of The Pops
http://www.pulsarlight.com/ChromaRange.htm

The NJD ones are probably more in our price range though. You could also
build your own. The only special part of the system is the controller
although even this can be done with 3 simple dimmers.

The lamps are either Low Voltage Halogen or Mains Voltage spotlights. Why
not experiment a little with some cheap Halogen fittings from B&Q etc
at
around £12 quid for a set of 3. You will of course need the dichroic
lamps
but they should be readily available.
