Re: Re: PIR's

I got some digital modules from a company in the states called Weeder -
www.weedtech.com.  The are driven off the serial port and the nice thing is that
they can be daisy chained together.   Each module has 16 digital ports each of
which can be configured as In or Out.  was about $60 per module and they are
easy to code for in C or VB etc and there is a perl module as part of Mr House.

I use some inputs to Drive Mr House and some outputs to drive opto-isolated 240V
light switching both from Mr House and direct control through other software.

Depends how many. If you have a bi-directional printer port, you can
interface 12(?) direct.
Otherwise, Maplins used to do an ISA digital I/O card, which I
successfully used to interface PIR's in my last house. Sadly I think
these have now been discontinued, although the hardware is
straightforward. Perhaps Vellman or another kit suppliers do
something similar?
If you're comfortable with rolling your own hardware, then a rabbit
core would give you a very flexible dedicated interface for a lot
less than Homevision costs.
You may also want to look at VIOM modules. Paul Gordon has played
with these and I *think* they do a parallel input version.
