Depends how many. If you have a bi-directional printer port, you can
interface 12(?) direct.
Otherwise, Maplins used to do an ISA digital I/O card, which I
successfully used to interface PIR's in my last house. Sadly I think
these have now been discontinued, although the hardware is
straightforward. Perhaps Vellman or another kit suppliers do
something similar?
If you're comfortable with rolling your own hardware, then a rabbit
core would give you a very flexible dedicated interface for a lot
less than Homevision costs.
You may also want to look at VIOM modules. Paul Gordon has played
with these and I *think* they do a parallel input version.
