I did have some of that self amalgamting rubber stuff and wrapped that
around the F-connector.  I think it was sealed but I guess I'll have to
check that.  I also made sure that I left a drip loop, the cable comes down
the wall from the loft through a gap in the cladding. If any water has got
in the cable it will only be in the first meter or so

The digital dish was there from the previous owners, and a I said all I've
done since is change the cableing and watch the owners trees go.  The thing
I thought was odd is that the box is ok if you power it down for a few
minutes, but dies again a short while after.

I guess something could be charging up and then failing.  Are you saying
that water in the cable or LNB could be causing this sort of effect?


When I get a chance I think I'll move the sat box into the garage and run a
temporary cable, if that is ok for more than ten minutes then I'll be pretty
sure its the cable.
