You can test this very easily - just open a HyperTerminal (or other OS equiv terminal prog) with 2400 8N1 and then take your phone on and off hook, You should see the data come in from the Meteor. If that works OK try dialling in and the number should be displayed on screen.

Think I'll download the trial version of Equinox so I can try to establish
if the Meteor is shagged or the cable is dodgy or the other software is
dodgy....
