Re: Slimp3 question

I think the point re comparison with whole house audio is that its a lot simpler to plug one of these boxes in a network than to go and wire your house up for whole house audio given all the extra stuff required like IR distribution and possibly zoning etc....

I think the SLIMP3 will appeal to the people who like the idea of being able to hack around with the perl code....

From memory a another difference between the SLIMP3 & RIO is that it has a built in amp.

Subject: [ukha_d] Slimp3 question

I am just looking at the site and, as far as I can see, Slimp3 is attached to the network and listenes music broadcasted from the server.
It then extracts it to the line level outputs and you need to connect them to the amplifier with speakers. If you want to listen to it in more rooms, you need one Slimp3+Amp+speakers combination in each room. And you need one Slimp3 remote and one amplifier remote (for volume) in each room.
So what's that different from e.g Rio Player, and great about Slimp3? Price?
And what's the advantage of distributing music this way instead of switcher with just speakers in each room. Sound quality? Multiple sources at the same time?
I must be missing something here...
Nik
