If your lights etc are computer controlled, you could just use Girder
or
such to change you IR from the pronto to fire up apps, change settings
etc......

I've always though a Pronto would make an excellent wall mounted
touchscreen, just needs someone to create the software for it.  It's
a
backlit touchscreen of a decent size, with buit in IR tx and rx and a
RS232
interface!
