    The electronics and intelligence to do this are quite intricate  - anything that has to extract data from a specific TV scan line , modify and then re-insert it (in real time) will be quite a complex piece of kit. £120 sounds quite reasonable and I doubt a low cost offering will appear unless some semi-conductor manufacturer provides a chipset that helps to do it.
    Any integration of this with KAT5 seems inappropriate - Keith's solution simply (and elegantly) 'moves' a source to make it available somewhere more useful, I don't think it should be involved in modifying the source content like this.
