My Rio Receiver seems pretty good at randomising.

I load a whole pile of M3Us.

From Menu – Select Music (or playlist etc.)

Choose Artist

Choose Play all music

Press the Random button.

Skip thru some tracks

 

Provided the Random button is on, seems to work fine each time. One thing that I thought was wrong was that the same track was selected each time for the first song it played. Upon closer inspection, this was because it was playing the first song (sorted alphabetically) and the random button was not on.
