If you have the special APC serial cable then you can just extend it using a normal serial mouse Male-Female extension lead ... this is what I do ... you just can't use a normal serial lead to connect between the PC and the UPS without the specially wired APC cable.

I used APC 700VA for Home Highway (+ PC and other stuff)  for 2 years without problems.
APC UPS is the only brand whose drivers come with Win 2000, so I never really bothered installing Powerchute.
Bear in mind that serial cable connecting UPS and PC is not "normal" serial cable, so if it's not long enough, you'll have to think about some solution.

Anyone using their UPS to power HomeVision, HomeHighway etc?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
