With out a subscription you can get an initial 3 weeks out of it, after
this is goes into BoatAnchorMode=True (this is in the software) and the
only thing it will do is record for 30 mins. Once the guide data has run
out (after the 3 weeks) manual recording stops, I've tested this so know
first hand :-(
I've hacked mine and got the following functionallity from it:-
Does not need to be plugged into phoneline.
Has Aux enabled (So I can now use it for CCTV work).
Guide data thinks it is OK for a few months (I'm going to change this so
it's decades).
Manual record works.
Most nags are gone.
Software version is 2.5.5
Hacking the Tivo is not for the faint hearted! If you want it to replace
your video recorder then buy a subscription or even better get Sky+
