I flew thru LAX about 5 weeks ago, and although security was very strong,
there seemed to be little concern for the contents of luggage, I had amongst
other strange things, a playstation, and there wasn't even an x-ray on
incoming luggage.

Hand luggage was a different matter and came under more scrutiny, including
individual xray for electrical items such as notebooks and mobile phones.
