And it has more sense to negotiate the price for purchasing directly.
It
should be cheaper, because we don't pay shipping twice and simpler,
because
buyers can deal with seller directly, there's no re-packaging involved
etc.
You just negotiate the price and supply the list of buyers to them.
If that works, maybe same model can be applied to future bulk buys?

Subject: [ukha_d] BULK BUY FOR RIOs - Update
Dear all,
It looks as if there may be about 15-20 units wanted, based simply on
those
who've responded to the "Rio Purchases" email in the last couple
of hours!
I'm going to leave it till, say, lunchtime tomorrow, before I approach
Sonic
Blue again, to see how many we've got interested.
As I said before, I'm happy to do the "bulk buy" negotiations (I
am a
corporate negotiator, after all), but realistically I don't have the
time
available to actual do the administration of a bulk buy.
However, I think it's only fair to say at this stage that I will only
really
push ahead with a bulk buy if we can get a price better than £130/item
+
shipping from the co-ordinator to the purchasers. Otherwise (taking
into
account the fact that items will be shipped twice, and the work
required
(based on previous ones), there just isn't any point compared to simply
saying "buy them direct!".
The ideal is, of course, to arrange a "group discount" based on
everyone
buying directly from SonicBlue... this is what I'll put to them.
As such I think the process and timescales are:
- Today, tomorrow: Get outline numbers
- Wednesday, thursday: Get price/volume commitment from SonicBlue
- Friday: announce the appointment of the "Bulk Buy co-ordinator"
- Friday: announce the price/volumes officially, both to those who've
responded, and to the UKHA_list
- Monday-Wednesday next week: Bulk Buy co-ordinator gets commitments
(ie
payment) from all those wishing to purchase
- Thursday next week: Place the order
- Mid week-after-next: Bulk Buy co-ordinator receives goods, distribute
them
- Weekend-after-next (26th April): Purchasers receive goods

OK.
Here's the deal.
If you are interested in buying a Rio Receiver (rebadged DDAR), then
please
send a message as follows:
To:
Mark.Harrison@xxxxxxx
(NOT TO THE GROUP)
Subject: Rio
Purchase
(NO OTHER SUBJECT LINE)
Please include in the message how many you would like to buy.
Please do this EVEN IF you have already sent me (or the group) a
message.
The reason for this is that my automated rules are filtering any replies
to
the earlier message into my UKHA_D folder. I am going to set up a
separate
rule to filter messages about "Rio Purchase" into a dedicated
folder, which
I'm more likely to keep up-to-date with than my UKHA_D one ;-)
At this time, the bulk buy is NOT binding. The purpose of these emails is
to
gauge interest prior to approaching SonicBlue for a price.
Obviously, if enough people are interested to get a decent reduction,
then
we'll discuss who's best placed to co-ordinate the bulk buy. It may not
be
me... However, I'm happy to be the negotiator ;-)
Regards,
Mark
