Can anyone help with an Epod problem

I have a wireless connection set up which works fine except sometimes when the Epod is turned on I get this message "A DHCP Server could not be contacted using cached lease information" if I OK this it all works a treat.
Not knowing much about networking I assume I have a DHCP server set up as all the other wired PCs on the network are set to obtain their IP addresses.
I didn't set it up so where is this DHCP server and what are the benefits of using fixed IPs.

Any ideas, in plain English please.

Thanks

Alancc
