In my
experience massive highs and lows. I have earned a lot of money over the
past 5
years and thoroughly enjoyed being my own boss. But I have now not had a
contract since the end of January and it is really starting to hurt. What
would
be your area of expertise. have you had a look at www.jobserve.com to see what demand
there is
for your skills. If your CV is up to date then try applying for a few
contracts,
you can always say no at the end of the day and it will let you test the
water.
And before anyone moans about wasting agency and client time, they
frequently
waste contractors time and they make a lot of money off our backs so I
don't
care. At the end of the day you will be judged on your own abilities, there
is
no big company to hide behind and not job security, but the rewards are
good
(not just financial) and it is the most challenging work I have ever done.
For
the record I did 5 years as a permie at Unilever, then 18 months as a
Senior
Consultant at PriceWaterhouse before finally going
independent.
Regards
Graham
