Re: Purchasing
Have you thought of buying a ready made rackmount server? I've been
looking
at www.serversource.co.uk (Midland Computer Services) who sell off Dell
equipment that is either a return or factory excess stock. Here's a few
I've being considering:
Dell Poweredge 2550 1U rackmount Celeron 600 MHz, CD, Floppy, 128MB RAM, 10
GB IDE HDD, Dual 10/100 LAN @ £620
Dell Poweredge 2550 1U rackmount PIII 866 MHz, CD, Floppy, 128MB RAM, 1 X 9
GB HDD, Single 10/100 LAN @ £830
Dell Poweredge 2550 2U rackmount PIII 933 MHz, CD, Floppy, 512MB RAM, 3 x
18
GB SCSI HDD, RAID controller, Single 10/100 LAN @ £2085
Also, they've got some decent looking 17" TFTs for £495
Only thing is - 1U and 2U servers don't look that 'impressive'. I suppose
a
7U monster may have more of a 'wow factor' when showing someone node 0 :o)
