... but as others have pointed out, the DVD is likely to be connected to
an IDE controller which will have configurable DMA. This is, however,
different from enabling DMA on the DVD/CD itself.

Damn ... I was assuming that DMA on the DVD drive wasn't active as:

1) When accessing CDR/DVDs the processor loading hits 95%+.
2) The ATi WinDVD player software tells me that DMA is turned off.

Therefore I assumed it was possible to turn it on...
